School Councils

In an education system, few decisions can be made by one person or group alone.  Parents should be involved in their children's education. Other members of society also have a role to play in education.  Parents, students, teachers, principals, superintendents, trustees, government, business, and other community members are all participants in education and have a responsibility to work together. Section 55 of the Education Act reaffirms the right of parents and the school community to be involved in the education of their children through school councils.

School councils are intended to be an association of parents, teachers, principals, staff, students and community representatives that provide advice on planning, community relations and school programming.

Council of School Councils Test

St. Paul Education places great value on supporting and fostering relationships with its school councils. In order to serve this goal, St. Paul Education’s Board of Trustees has a Council of School Councils (COSC) committee. It seeks to provide opportunities for collaboration between school councils and the board.
